Garlicky Ham and Cheese Sliders

During the holidays, chances are you will have two things in your home: leftover baked ham in the fridge and a group of friends or family ready to eat. Let your guests know they came to the right place by serving up a large tray of garlicky, buttery ham and cheese sliders filled with thin slices of leftover smoked ham, melty Havarti cheese, and a creamy caramelized onion relish with cornichon pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise. Everything is tucked into soft Hawaiian pull-apart rolls that are brushed with garlic butter and sprinkled with nutty, toasted sesame seeds.

This recipe keeps the festive spirit alive while giving you more time to do what you love most — entertaining. The sliders can be assembled a day ahead and baked 30 minutes before your guests arrive. Use the large baking pan included with your Wonder Oven Pro to make 30 ham and cheese sliders at once. It will evenly melt the cheese and toast the garlic butter rolls to golden perfection every time.

💡Chef's Tip

If using the Standard Wonder Oven, half the recipe to fit on the oven’s standard size bake pan.

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven. Preheat your Wonder Oven Pro to Bake at 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Make the caramelized onion relish. In your Large Titanium Always Pan Pro, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the onion and salt and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The onion should be soft and starting to color. Add 1/4 cup of water and continue to cook for 15 minutes, until the water has reduced and the onions are golden and jammy. Add another 1/4 cup of water and cook for 10 minutes more, stirring until the water evaporates and the onions are a deep golden brown.

Step 3

Transfer the caramelized onions to a food processor. Add the black pepper, mayonnaise, mustard, and cornichons. Pulse until a creamy, chunky relish forms. Set aside.

Step 4

Make the garlic butter. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and salt, and cook until fragrant. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Step 5

Assemble the sliders. Arrange the pull-apart rolls in the Wonder Oven Pro baking pan. Slice them horizontally through the middle to separate the tops and bottoms, keeping each half intact. Layer half of the cheese slices on the bottom half, then add all the ham. Spread the caramelized onion relish evenly over the ham and top with the remaining cheese. Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese.

Brush the tops with garlic butter and sprinkle evenly with sesame seeds. Cover the rolls with foil.

Step 6

Bake. Bake on the Wonder Oven Pro’s lower rack for 25 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for 5 to 7 minutes more, until the tops are golden brown. Watch closely so the garlic does not burn.

Step 7

Serve. Cut the sliders apart and serve warm straight from the pan.
