The Holiday Cookie Recipe Guide
Author: Our Place | December 1, 2024 | Time to read: 4 min
For us, sharing cookies and anything cookie-adjacent is a small-but-sweet way to connect with someone else. There’s nothing quite like a homemade dessert, knowing it was baked and shared with love.
In that spirit this holiday season, we brought our team together and hosted a very-fun, very open-ended cookie exchange. We’ll be on a sugar high until January.
Now presenting … recipes of some of the consensus favorites — just for you. Happy baking!
Ryo’s Whole Wheat Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies
This recipe is a favorite amongst my family and friends. Packed with walnuts, rich chocolate, and wholesome whole wheat flour, it has a warm and hearty texture that’s perfect for the holidays (or anytime)!
Morgan’s Rugelach
These cookies are what I expect to find at every family gathering when my mom is involved. Since I moved to the East Coast, my in-laws now hope to see these at my house! As a certified “non-baker”, stepping into my Mom’s shoes feels intimidating. I spent an afternoon last year learning from her while my newborn daughter slept in her carrier resting on me. It was an incredible experience to be able to share that moment across generations.
Jolie’s Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
Based on how my cookies turned out (not what we were looking for…), here is a recipe for baking chocolate chip cookies at altitude - a little more liquid and a higher baking temperature. Chilling your dough for at least an hour - preferably overnight - will be helpful to keep the cookies from spreading out too much.
Lisa’s Matcha White Chocolate Shortbread Cookies
Subtle bitterness from the matcha paired with the sweetness of the white chocolate. This recipe is a perfect balance of flavors for a little afternoon treat.
Darlene’s Lavender Oatmeal Cookies
When I was younger, I loved experimenting with different oatmeal cookie flavors—cookies that felt like home. One day, I decided to try lavender oatmeal cookies, and my partner said, "If I could taste the color purple, this is what it would taste like!" We shared a good laugh, and I even got a little teary-eyed. That moment captured the essence of home and is a memory I’ll always treasure. Since then, these cookies have become a staple in our household.
Kelsey’s Peanut Blossoms
Growing up, my mom made these cookies every holiday season. These cookies literally take me back to childhood and are always a popular request when my siblings travel home for Xmas. Typically these Peanut Blossoms are made with milk chocolate Hershey’s kisses but my mom would always make them with the dark chocolate kisses (they’re way better!). Sometimes I’ve excluded the kisses, but I’ll admit they just don’t taste the same. These peanut butter cookies need to be sealed with a kiss!
Steven’s Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Cookies
Growing up, my father would bake warm, comforting banana bread for our family, filling the house with a delicious aroma that instantly brought us all together. Inspired by those cherished memories, I decided to create my own twist on this classic treat for my own children—chocolate chip banana bread cookies! This recipe is perfect for using up overripe bananas that might otherwise go to waste, transforming them into soft, chewy cookies with a hint of nostalgia and a modern, sweet touch.
